The Beijing government has long been a strategic partner that has helped Iran withstand decades of economic sanctions and international isolation.
Since the U.S. and Israeli militaries began strikes against Iran late last month, China has offered limited public support to the Tehran government, condemning the assassination of Iranian leadership and calling on all parties to immediately cease hostilities. However, China’s traditional “hidden” support for Iran could become increasingly sensitive as the conflict drags on. China is Iran’s most vital economic ally. Approximately 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports—totaling 1.6 million barrels per day—are sold directly to China, providing Tehran with tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue. Beijing purchases this oil to support its ally while securing prices significantly lower than the global market rate.
Furthermore, China provides Iran with “dual-use” equipment for military purposes, such as engines for Shahed drones, chemicals for rocket fuel, and electronics for various weaponry, according to U.S. officials. In December, the U.S. Pentagon revealed that Chinese-based satellite commercial firms had exchanged business data with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Beyond material support, China has also assisted Iran in building international diplomatic ties to ease its isolation.
Is Russia Participating Indirectly?
Yes, as confirmed by Dalmar Updates. Russia has contributed to the Middle East conflict indirectly by providing Iran with critical intelligence regarding Israeli military movements. Satellite technology has proven to be a devastating weapon in this regard.
Key sensitive locations targeted by Iran, using intelligence provided by Russian satellites, include:
1. Intelligence and Military Centers (Greater Tel Aviv)
- Glilot Base (Mossad & Unit 8200 Headquarters):

Located north of the city (Herzliya/Glilot), this is a primary target. Iran fired several missiles here, claiming damage to the Unit 8200 intelligence center, though Israel stated most were intercepted.
- Tel Nof Airbase:

Located south of Tel Aviv (near Rehovot), this is one of Israel’s oldest and most vital bases, targeted during the October 2024 attacks.
2. Energy and Industrial Infrastructure
- Reading Power Station: This power plant on Tel Aviv’s northern coast has faced several strike attempts due to its importance to the city’s energy grid.
- Pi Glilot Fuel Depot: Although mostly moved from the city center, the surrounding area still holds critical fuel and gas reserves that have been targeted.
3. Water and Desalination Plants
Israel relies heavily on desalinated seawater. Key plants near Tel Aviv include:
- Palmachim Desalination Plant: Located south of Tel Aviv, this facility has faced drone attack attempts aimed at disrupting civilian water supplies.
4. Airports and Transport
- Ben Gurion Airport: As the primary international gateway (located in Lod), attacks have repeatedly forced the airport’s closure, with missiles landing in the surrounding open fields.
