SHABWA, Yemen — The UAE-owned oil tanker, M/T EUREKA, was hijacked a short while ago near the coast of Shabwa in the Hadramaut region. According to reports from Reuters, unidentified armed men successfully boarded the vessel and seized full control. Immediately following the takeover, the hijackers altered the ship’s course, steering it toward Somali waters.
Regional maritime security agencies are currently monitoring the situation as the vessel moves further into the high seas. This incident marks a significant escalation in maritime insecurity along the strategic shipping lanes connecting Yemen and Somalia, raising fresh concerns over the resurgence of piracy in the region.
