
Herzog Holds High-Level Talks in Addis Ababa, Emphasizes Strong Bilateral TiesIsraelโs President Isaac Herzog
declared that Ethiopia remains a pivotal country in Africa,
stressing that the relationship between the two nations is stronger than any attempt to undermine it.
The remarks came during his official visit to Ethiopia, where he held high-level meetings with Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
He also met leaders of the local Jewish community in Addis Ababa.
Strengthening Historical and Strategic TiesDuring talks with President Selassie,
Herzog highlighted the deep historical and humanitarian connections between the peoples of both nations.
โThis is my third visit to Africa and the fourth African country I have visited as President of Israel,โ Herzog said. โ
The relationship between our peoples is woven deeply into the pages of history and shared human values.
At the core of our national stories lies a common thread โ the ability to extend a hand, unite spiritual and material resources, and pursue innovation,
development, and growth for the benefit of all.โFocus on Innovation, Trade,
and Regional IssuesIn his meeting with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed,
discussions centered on enhancing bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in innovation, trade,
and other sectors of mutual interest. Regional developments were also addressed.
โEthiopia is a key state in Africaโฆ our ties are strong, and our shared interests are stronger than any attempt to weaken them,โ Herzog stated.
He further emphasized the importance of deepening dialogue and partnership between the two countries,
noting that the shared pursuit of innovation, prosperity, and collective well-being drives both nations forward.
Community Engagement and Cultural VisitThe visit also included
a tour of a science museum and the โFriendshipโ Park in the capital,
as well as a meeting with Ethiopiaโs Jewish community.
Herzog expressed appreciation for their role in preserving Jewish heritage
and strengthening ties with Israel.
