Mogadishu, Somalia – After weeks of political tension and refusal, the President of Jubbaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), has finally arrived in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital.
Weeks earlier, Ahmed Madobe and the President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, were prevented from landing in Mogadishu after their aircraft was stopped in the airspace. The move reportedly came as both leaders insisted on traveling with their full security details and armed escorts.
At the time, both presidents firmly stated that they would not attend any meetings or conferences in Mogadishu unless they were allowed to enter the capital with their own strong security forces.
International Pressure on the Federal Government
The Federal Government of Somalia later came under strong pressure from the international community, particularly the United Nations, to ease restrictions and ensure the participation of regional leaders in national-level talks.
Following this pressure, restrictions were relaxed.
