
The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia held an extraordinary meeting today to discuss the country’s overall security situation, recent successful military operations against extremist groups, and the local council elections in the Banadir Region, which were recently conducted successfully in the capital.
The meeting was chaired by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and attended by the Prime Minister, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre.
During the session, the President delivered a comprehensive briefing on the general situation of the country and commended the Council of Ministers for their visible role in the successful conduct of the one-person, one-vote local elections in Mogadishu on December 25, 2025.
He described the elections as a historic milestone, noting that many had previously doubted their feasibility.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also addressed the blatant violation of Somalia’s sovereignty, stating that the government has achieved tangible results through diplomatic measures taken in response to the incident.
He urged the Council to remain united and collectively committed to defending the nation.Furthermore, the President emphasized the importance of unity, consultation, and joint responsibility in addressing national challenges and delivering effective services to the Somali people.
