Mogadishu – Feb 2026: Opposition Conference Opens
Urgently, the Somali government is facing a lack of solutions as the election approaches, with only 90 days remaining! Meanwhile, the House of the People and the Upper House also have just 60 days left in their term.

This is the second conference convened by the government of Hassan Sheikh, with participation from both opposition and ruling party representatives, yet no agreement or tangible outcomes have been reached.
Additionally, the conference includes representatives from four federal member states: Southwest Somalia, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and Puntland. Many people are questioning why the conference is addressing the future of Somalia’s governance, including the amended constitution, without achieving any political agreement on the process or timing of upcoming elections.

The leaders of these member states are attending, which suggests support for the approach advocated by President Hassan Sheikh, while politicians without official positions are also participating in decision-making regarding the country’s future.
