Emergency crews extinguish a fire at a destroyed home following a Russian drone strike in Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv region.
A Russian drone strike has killed a father and three young children in northeastern Ukraine, while their pregnant mother survived with injuries, authorities said.
The attack occurred late Tuesday in the town of Bohodukhiv, located in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, near the Russian border. According to Ukrainian officials, the drone struck a private residence, completely destroying the home and trapping the family under the rubble.

Prosecutors said the victims included a 34-year-old father and his three children — twin boys aged two and their one-year-old sister. The children’s mother, who is 35 weeks pregnant, was rescued alive from the debris. She sustained blast injuries, burns, a traumatic brain injury, and hearing loss. Officials later confirmed she received medical treatment and was discharged from hospital.
Local authorities declared three days of mourning in Bohodukhiv following the attack.
Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov said the family had recently moved to the town in an attempt to escape frequent shelling elsewhere in the region.
Broader Overnight Attacks
Ukrainian officials also reported that at least two children were killed in a separate drone attack in the Sumy region, with additional injuries reported across multiple districts.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia launched 129 long-range drones overnight, targeting areas including Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Poltava, and railway infrastructure in Sumy. Ukraine’s air force said it shot down or neutralized 112 of the drones.
In western Ukraine, air defense systems intercepted missiles aimed at the Lviv region, with no reported casualties.
Zelenskyy said the continued attacks demonstrate that Russia is “not preparing to stop,” adding that diplomatic efforts to end the war require stronger international pressure and security guarantees for Ukraine.
Ongoing Diplomatic Efforts
The strikes come as US-led negotiations to end the nearly four-year war continue. Ukrainian and Russian representatives have held recent talks with US mediators in Abu Dhabi, amid efforts by Washington to reach a settlement.
Ukrainian Counterstrikes
Ukraine’s military reported targeting multiple Russian positions, including command posts, artillery systems, and drone control points. Meanwhile, Russian authorities said Ukrainian drones caused a fire at an industrial facility in Volgograd and damaged residential property. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed it intercepted 108 Ukrainian drones overnight.
The conflict, now entering its fourth year, continues to see heavy aerial attacks and mounting civilian casualties on both sides.
