Iran has seized two oil tankers in the Persian Gulf and detained nearly 15 foreign crew members, according to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The vessels were accused of fuel smuggling, though Iranian authorities did not disclose the ships’ nationalities or the origins of the crew.
The incident comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East, following the deployment of additional U.S. naval forces to the region.
Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported the seizures but provided limited further details.
