LIVE: Israel Reopens Rafah Crossing as Deadly Gaza Attacks Continue
Rafah border opens on trial basis while civilian deaths surge across Gaza
Israel has reopened the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt on a limited, trial basis after nearly two years of closure, citing security screening procedures.
The move comes as thousands of sick and wounded Palestinians urgently seek medical treatment outside Gaza.
The reopening coincides with one of the deadliest days since the October ceasefire, as Israeli air raids struck both northern and southern Gaza,
killing at least 31 Palestinians, including six children, according to medical sources.
Since the ceasefire came into effect, Israeli forces have killed at least 509 Palestinians and injured more than 1,400 others,
raising serious concerns over the durability and credibility of the truce.
Overall, Israelโs war on Gaza has resulted in at least 71,769 Palestinian deaths and more than 171,000 injuries since October 2023.
On the Israeli side, around 1,139 people were killed during the Hamas-led October 7 attacks, with approximately 250 people taken captive.
Despite the partial reopening of Rafah, uncertainty remains over how many Palestinians will be allowed to leave or return,
and whether the crossing will remain open beyond the trial phase.
