The Turkish Ministry of National Defense has officially denied reports claiming that its S-400 air defense system has been deployed to Somalia.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry clarified that the S-400 system remains an integral component of Turkey’s
domestic defense infrastructure and that there are no plans to station it outside the country, including in Somalia.
The clarification follows circulating media claims suggesting that the advanced missile defense platform had been transferred to support security operations in the Horn of Africa nation.
Turkey’s Ongoing Role in SomaliaIn the same statement, Ankara outlined the scope of its continued engagement in Somalia. Turkish activities in the country were described as focusing on:
Supporting the restructuring and modernization of the Somali National Army Contributing to counterterrorism
effortsAssisting in the protection of Somalia’s economic resources Safeguarding Turkey’s broader strategic interestsTurkey has maintained a strong
security and development partnership with Somalia over the past decade, including military training cooperation and infrastructure support.
Officials emphasized that ongoing defense collaboration with Mogadishu is centered on capacity-building and institutional strengthening, rather than the deployment of high-level strategic missile systems.
The statement appears aimed at dispelling speculation and clarifying Ankara’s position amid heightened regional attention to military partnerships in the Horn of Africa.
