Arkia Airlines, the Israeli carrier, has announced that it can now operate flights over Somali airspace following the government’s decision to lift the previous restrictions.

The move comes after intensive diplomatic efforts involving both Israel and Somalia, according to the airline. Arkia reported that the ban, which lasted for two weeks, had caused significant operational and financial losses.
Earlier this year, in mid-January, Somalia had implemented a technical blockade effectively preventing Arkia flights from traversing its airspace, a measure that heavily disrupted the airline’s schedules.
With the government now restoring flight permissions, Arkia Airlines can resume its routes over Somalia. The decision comes amid tensions following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent entity, a move that previously drew criticism for infringing on Somalia’s sovereignty.
