Cairo, Egypt —Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi held high-level talks today focusing on defense cooperation,
Somalia’s electoral process, and key regional security issues.
According to information released following the meeting, both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and expanding military and security collaboration between Somalia and Egypt.
Among the key points discussed was the enhancement of defense cooperation,
including accelerating and completing the deployment and operational readiness of Egyptian forces currently in Somalia,
as well as additional forces expected to arrive in the near future.
President Al-Sisi reportedly urged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to resolve Somalia’s electoral process as soon as possible,
stressing the need to overcome the ongoing political disputes in order to ensure stability and institutional continuity in the country.
The talks also addressed broader regional alliances. Egypt and Türkiye expressed readiness to move forward with the signing of a tripartite defense pact involving Somalia,
though both sides agreed that finalizing the agreement should wait until Somalia’s elections are concluded.
Additionally, Egypt and Türkiye reaffirmed their commitment to preventing what they described as blatant external interference by Israel in regional affairs,
highlighting shared concerns over Middle Eastern and Horn of Africa security dynamics.
The meeting reflects growing diplomatic and security coordination between Somalia, Egypt, and regional partners —
at a time of heightened political and geopolitical developments in the Horn of Africa.
