wide Power Outage Russia carried out one of its largest aerial attacks on Ukraine to date, launching around 500 drones alongside hundreds of missiles in a coordinated overnight assault, Ukrainian officials said on Friday.

The strikes primarily targeted critical energy and electricity infrastructure, causing a nationwide power blackout across Ukraine.
Emergency crews were deployed across multiple regions as authorities raced to restore electricity and prevent further damage to heating systems, water supplies, and communications.
The scale of the attack raised alarm beyond Ukraine’s borders. Poland, a NATO member and neighboring country,
placed its air defense forces on high alert and reportedly requested enhanced NATO coordination,
citing concerns that Russian drones or missiles could stray into its airspace.
Polish officials said the precautionary measures were taken to protect national security amid the intensity and geographic spread of the Russian strikes, which reached targets across nearly all regions of Ukraine.
Military analysts say the assault reflects Moscow’s continued strategy of crippling Ukraine’s energy network,
particularly during periods of high civilian demand, in an effort to weaken morale and strain government resources.
Ukrainian air defense systems intercepted a significant number of drones and missiles, but officials acknowledged that the sheer volume of the attack overwhelmed defenses in several areas. Casualty figures and the full extent of the damage are still being assessed.
The latest escalation comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts to manage the wider fallout of the war, as NATO closely monitors developments along its eastern flank.
