Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have sharply escalated following a series of airstrikes carried out by Pakistani forces in eastern Afghanistan.
According to reports, Pakistani fighter jets launched heavy bombardments targeting the provinces of Nangarhar, Paktika, and Khost. At least seven facilities were reportedly destroyed during the operations.
Islamabad stated that the strikes were conducted in response to a surge in militant attacks inside Pakistani territory, which allegedly resulted in the deaths of dozens of Pakistani soldiers. Officials described the air operations as necessary defensive measures against cross-border threats.
In retaliation, Afghan forces reportedly launched ground assaults targeting Pakistani positions along the border. Afghan authorities claimed they had seized two Pakistani military bases and inflicted casualties on Pakistani troops.
However, Pakistan has strongly denied those claims, insisting that no military bases were captured and dismissing the reports as inaccurate.
Despite the conflicting narratives, sources indicate that Pakistan’s air operations are ongoing, raising fears of further military escalation between the two neighboring countries.
Regional observers warn that continued hostilities could destabilize border areas and increase security risks across South Asia.
