Joint SomaliaโTurkey Military Cooperation Expands with Strategic Base in Middle Shabelle
The governments of Somalia and Turkey have begun implementing a previously signed bilateral defense agreement by establishing a new naval training facility near the coastal town of Cadale in the Middle Shabelle region.
The base has been constructed on the outskirts of Cadale within a secured Turkish military compound.
The site is also reportedly designated for satellite launches and missile testing as part of broader strategic cooperation between the two nations.
Initial units of the Somali Navy have already been deployed to the facility.
Command structures and leadership positions for the Cadale naval division have been formally appointed, according to internal documents reviewed by local media sources.
Naval forces stationed at the base will operate small patrol boats recently supplied by Turkey.
These vessels are expected to enhance coastal security around the facility.
The compound is guarded internally and externally by units from Somaliaโs elite Gorgor forces alongside Turkish military personnel.
Although construction is still ongoing in some sections, significant military equipment has already been delivered,
and training activities are reportedly underway.
Meanwhile, a Turkish government aircraft that arrived in Mogadishu earlier today transported members of Somaliaโs โ
Haramcad special police unit to Turkey for advanced training programs, signaling deepening security ties between the two countries.
