President Donald Trump has announced that he will direct U.S. government agencies to begin releasing classified documents related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and unexplained aerial phenomena.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said he would instruct national security agencies โ including the Department of Defense โ to start identifying and declassifying
government records connected to mysterious aerial objects that have remained unexplained for decades.
The announcement follows recent public remarks by former President Barack Obama, who stated during a podcast interview that unidentified aerial phenomena are โrealโ and acknowledged that certain unexplained objects have been recorded by U.S. authorities.
Trump criticized Obamaโs comments, arguing that sensitive information should not be casually discussed.
However, he also indicated that his administration would pursue greater transparency regarding investigations into unidentified aerial sightings and any related intelligence findings.
When asked directly whether he believes extraterrestrial life exists, Trump responded that he is uncertain, saying he has no definitive view on the matter.
Obama later clarified that while he considers it statistically possible that life could exist elsewhere in the vast universe,
he saw no conclusive evidence during his presidency proving that extraterrestrial beings had contacted Earth.
He emphasized in a public statement that no confirmed proof of alien interaction was presented to him while in office.
Public fascination with UFOs has intensified in recent years, particularly after reports surfaced in 2017 revealing
a previously undisclosed Pentagon program that examined unusual sightings reported by military pilots and service members.
In 2022, Congress held its first hearing on UFOs in over half a century.
The Pentagon subsequently established a dedicated office to collect and review reports of unidentified aerial encounters involving military personnel.
A later government report in 2024 concluded that there was no verified evidence that the United States had encountered extraterrestrial life.
Officials stated that most reported UFO sightings were ultimately attributed to conventional objects or explainable phenomena.
Trumpโs latest move signals renewed political attention to a subject that has long captured public imagination and fueled speculation about government secrecy.
