The Federal Government of Somalia has announced that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially suspended its security assistance to Somalia following Mogadishu’s decision to withdraw from bilateral cooperation agreements between the two nations.

Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, confirmed the development during a media briefing, stating that the majority of the UAE’s support had been directed toward strengthening Somalia’s military and national security institutions.
“Most of the assistance previously provided by the UAE was focused on the security sector.
Since the agreements have been annulled, there is no longer a legal basis for that support to continue,” the minister said.
The announcement comes after the Federal Government of Somalia declared in January that it had terminated all agreements signed with the United Arab Emirates, including those related to security cooperation.
At the time, the government accused Abu Dhabi of interfering in Somalia’s internal affairs and undermining the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
There were also allegations suggesting that the UAE facilitated the recognition extended by Israel to the Somaliland administration.
