Türkiye Sends Drilling Vessel to Somalia for Offshore Energy Operations
Türkiye has announced a new milestone in its growing partnership with Somalia, confirming that the Çağrı Bey Drilling Vessel has departed from Mersin Taşucu Port and is en route to Somali waters.
The deployment follows seismic research activities conducted by Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO), Türkiye’s national oil company, as part of ongoing hydrocarbon exploration cooperation between the two nations.
Somalia will serve as the first international mission area for the Çağrı Bey vessel. Drilling operations are expected to commence once the ship reaches Somali territorial waters.
Officials described the move as a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral energy collaboration. The project is seen as opening a new chapter in offshore exploration and economic partnership between Türkiye and Somalia.
The initiative reflects deepening strategic ties between the two countries, particularly in the energy sector, where Türkiye has expanded its engagement in recent years.
Both sides expressed optimism that the exploration efforts will produce positive and mutually beneficial outcomes, potentially contributing to Somalia’s long-term economic development and energy sector growth.
