Warships belonging to the Turkish Navy were officially received in Mogadishu on Tuesday,
marking another milestone in the growing defense and maritime cooperation between Somalia and Tรผrkiye.
The arrival of the vessels comes at a time when the Federal Government of Somalia is intensifying efforts to strengthen its naval forces, enhance coastal security,
and protect its vast maritime resources.Somali authorities have recently prioritized the rebuilding and modernization of the national navy as part of broader security sector reforms.
The move also aligns with the governmentโs strategic focus on safeguarding offshore economic interests,
including the development and protection of Somaliaโs emerging oil and gas sector.
Tรผrkiye has been a key security and development partner to Somalia over the past decade, providing military training,
infrastructure support, and defense cooperation.
Officials say the presence of Turkish naval assets underscores the deepening strategic partnership between the two countries and highlights ongoing efforts to improve maritime stability in the Horn of Africa.
