
News ArticleA civilian passenger aircraft en route to the Somali cities of Galkacyo and Guriceel crashed at Mogadishu International Airport shortly after takeoff on Tuesday, airport officials confirmed.
The aircraft experienced a technical malfunction less than 15 minutes after becoming airborne, prompting the pilot to attempt an emergency return to Mogadishu.
During the landing attempt, the plane veered off the runway and crashed within the airport perimeter.
Airport authorities said the aircraft was carrying 55 passengers,
all of whom escaped without injuries or fatalities.
Officials at Mogadishu Airport praised the swift response of emergency teams and confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the technical failure.
Operations at the airport were briefly disrupted following the incident, but flights are expected to resume normally.
