A senior Russian military official has been shot in Moscow, according to Russian state media.
Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, the deputy commander of the Russian armed forces and one of the senior officers reportedly close to President Vladimir Putin,
was wounded in a shooting incident that took place earlier today inside a building in the Russian capital.
State television network RT reported that an unidentified gunman, armed with a pistol,
opened fire on the general before fleeing the scene immediately after the attack.
Emergency services rushed Alexeyev to hospital, though authorities have not yet disclosed details about his medical condition.
Security forces have reportedly launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the attacker.
No official motive has been announced, and Russian authorities have not confirmed whether the incident is being treated as a targeted assassination attempt.
